Hooray! Weird Al Yankovic has a new album coming out on Tuesday called Straight Outta Lynwood. So far from the two singles he has out are pretty good. I can’t wait to add this to my collection. You can watch the videos for White & Nerdy and Don’t Download This Song on YouTube. Glee!

When I logged into my personal desktop, I was greeted with my Update Manager blinking in the panel. Updates! I was even more surprised to see that the upgrade to Dapper Drake 6.06 was available for my operating system. Awesome! I went ahead and marked the upgrade & let it go. It took about an hour to download the files and another 30 minutes to install but the upgrade itself was flawless…
… Except for one thing after I rebooted. After logging back in, my gnome-panel was totally hosed up. It was blank and unusable. I couldn’t right click to access a context menu or anything. I was able to right click the desktop and create a launcher for a terminal. Using that I tried to kill the process and restart it but no dice there. I started up Firefox to find a fix but didn’t have too much luck.
My fix so far was to go into a terminal and install the package for KDE (apt-get install kubuntu-desktop). After restarting X, logging in using KDE as my desktop manager was no problem at all. I’m still looking to see how to fix my defunct gnome-panel but KDE is kind of growing on me. Linux sure has come a long way since the days I was installing Slackware from almost 30 floppy diskettes. That sure was fun.
