Happy Anniversary

Eight years. That’s awesome. I’m just going to jump to the juicy bits and tell how the evening went. When I got home, I wrangled up the kids and herded them into the van to take them over to my parents’ house. Once I got them there, I immediately sprang into action with installing the seat covers that I got for her. Romantic, aren’t I? Actually, this is exactly what she wanted. I managed to get them fitted on the seats. I wasn’t sure whether or not they would since they’re made for bucket seats and our’s have those arm rests and wider bottoms. They did fit though. So with her present installed, I went inside and grabbed Nicky back from my parents who couldn’t resist taking out of his car seat to take pictures of him. I can see why since he was wearing a cute white polo onesie and little khaki pants. When we got home and Mandy walked through the front door, the first thing she saw was the seat covers. She was thrilled. It seems that I did manage to pick out the right ones. Just tacky enough without being obscenely frou-frou.

Welcome to the world…

Haven’t had a chance to post this until now. Nicholas Warren Romig was born on Tuesday, May 9th, at 7:09am weighing in at 7lbs 9.8oz and 21in long. We’ve been home since yesterday morning but we’re quite busy now. You know, other kids, cleaning, eating, staring at the baby.

A funny thing happened on the way to the podium…

After a long drawn out evening at my Effective Speaking class, teach likes to surprise us with making us do quick impromptu speeches before leaving. This time the topic was “Your favorite childhood memory.” I was like OMG. Are you serious? I swear either my mind went blank or I had a fairly boring childhood compared to everyone else in the class. When I stood up to give my impromptu, it went something like this:

The date was August 28, 1988. The day after my 9th birthday. My family and I were at the Flugtag Air Show at Ramstein Air Base in West Germany. Imagine you’re watching the planes do their stunts and procedures. While watching the Italian Air Force doing their famous Heart maneuver, one of the plane’s wings clips another. The plane explodes in a giant fireball and comes crashing down in your direction. Yeah, I was there. My dad grabs my arm and we go off running with my mom. My brother had immediately bolted. We eventually found him at a makeshift shelter in one of the buildings on base and we went home. Needless to say, I haven’t been to an air show since.

I got the weirdest looks. My only response to their stares was, “What? He didn’t say it had to be a good memory.” Gosh! Out of my negative childhood memories, it’s probably the one that stands out. I guess I could’ve talked about how I survived Hurricane Iniki and all I got was a lousy POG.
