And what a good election it was…

too subtle?

This whiteboard drawing just about says it all, doesn’t it? Of course, Issue 5 passing messes up my restaurant plans. That’s okay though. Less carcinogens for us! Aside from John Boehner, I think I did get my election wishes this year. This Independent welcomes the change coming to Congress. Here’s hoping for the best.

How Do I Vote?

Election Day is tomorrow. I don’t know about other people and how they vote but how I reach my voting decisions is quite a complex beast. Why vote the old fashioned way by going with the party you’re affiliated with? Now being an independent, I feel that I need to develop my own system of voting in order to stay true to myself and do what I need to do to keep my votes fair. So I will now try to explain how I usually go about election day.

  • If the candidate or issue has too many signs out, I will probably not vote for them. Seriously, I don’t appreciate spam in my inbox nor do I appreciate looking at the masses of duplicate cardboard signs on the side of the street. The same goes for the flyers and brochures I’m getting in the mail. Truly annoying.
  • If the candidate’s or issue’s signs are horrid to even look at, I will probably not vote for them. Again more visual pollution.  I remember a few years ago that someone had these bright orange signs with black lettering.  At first I wasn’t sure if it was an advertisement for a Halloween sale or a political ad.  Either way, that guy seemed scary.
  • Mud-slinging and anti-opponent commercials on television and mail are a no-no. I really don’t care what bad things the other candidate did in the past.  Everyone makes mistakes or regrets something. I want to hear what you are going to do to make life better and our government work more efficiently. If all you can do is berate and bash your opponent, that just means you are a bully and have nothing to bring to the table.

I’m not going to say who I’m voting for candidate-wise. I sort of have a secret ritual which may include snorting, bugged eyed looks, sneering, and muttering to help me make my final selection.  Honestly, though, I do try research the issues and candidates as much as I can. I want to make the most intelligent and knowledgeable decision that I can so our country doesn’t do any worse that it could.  It does seem that we have to vote for the lesser of two evils but we can only work with what we’re given.  Please vote responsibly.

Where to get schooled…

Lately, I’ve been thinking about switching to another college to continue on my degree. Sinclair is fine and all but it’s just not going to do it for me. I am realizing that I will not be able to complete this degree using distance learning methods in its entirety by going to Sinclair. I have been looking at my options and it’s looking like transferring may be the best choice. I could get a web development certificate but honestly, I need the degree even if it’s just an Associate’s. I don’t think I can get too much further with that paper.

The biggest pain in my arse that is holding me up is the “Intro to Computer Programming” course that is the prerequisite for all of the programming courses. They’re not offering it online yet so; nevertheless, I’ve been waiting for it to become so. I don’t think it’s going to happen soon and I am running out of classes to take to fill in my credit hours. I won’t even really mind taking the class even though I know there won’t really be any new material for myself since I’m already programming in various languages, but I just need a way to actually get it out of the way.
